"Every prayer can be framed as a thanksgiving," an Episcopal bishop wrote
in an Anglican Fellowship of Prayer newsletter years ago. I discovered he
was right and it has profoundly impacted my prayer life for two decades
or more.
Each phrase of the Lord's Prayer can, as he said, be framed as a
thanksgiving. "Thank You, Lord, for being our Father". "Thank You, Lord,
that we can look forward to spending eternity in Heaven with
You."......"Thank You for giving us our daily bread."...."Thank You,
Father, for leading us not into temptation."....etc.
Just weeks ago, a quotation posted at our hospital by the staff chaplain
reinforced afresh his words of years ago:
"If the only prayer
you ever said
in your life was
'Thank You, Lord'
that would
suffice."
-Meister Eckhart,
Christian Mystic
I hope these two thoughts will bless you and your people as they have me.
