<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>OLD TESTAMENT: Jeremiah 31:27-34 (RCL)
</FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Jere 31:27 (NRSV) The days are surely coming, says
the LORD, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the
seed of humans and the seed of animals. 28 And just as I have watched over them
to pluck up and break down, to overthrow, destroy, and bring evil, so I will
watch over them to build and to plant, says the LORD. 29 In those days they
shall no longer say: <BR>"The parents have eaten sour grapes, <BR>and the
children's teeth are set on edge." <BR>30 But all shall die for their own sins;
the teeth of everyone who eats sour grapes shall be set on edge. <BR>31 The days
are surely coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house
of Israel and the house of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant that I
made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the
land of Egypt--a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the
LORD. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write
it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 No
longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, "Know the LORD," for
they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the LORD;
for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more. </FONT></DIV>

<DIV><BR>Genesis 32: 22 - 31 (alt. for RCL) </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Gene 32:22 (NRSV) The same night he [Jacob] got up and took his two
wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the
Jab'bok. 23 He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise
everything that he had. 24 Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him
until daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he
struck him on the hip socket; and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he
wrestled with him. 26 Then he said, "Let me go, for the day is breaking." But
Jacob said, "I will not let you go, unless you bless me." 27 So he said to him,
"What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." 28 Then the man said, "You shall no
longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with
humans, and have prevailed." 29 Then Jacob asked him, "Please tell me your
name." But he said, "Why is it that you ask my name?" And there he blessed him.
30 So Jacob called the place Peni'el, saying, "For I have seen God face to face,
and yet my life is preserved." 31 The sun rose upon him as he passed Penu'el,
limping because of his hip. </DIV>

<DIV><BR>Habakkuk 1: 1 - 3, 2: 1 - 4 (Can. BAS)</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Haba 1:1 (NRSV) The oracle that the prophet Habakkuk saw. <BR>2 O LORD, how
long shall I cry for help, <BR>and you will not listen? <BR>Or cry to you
"Violence!" <BR>and you will not save? <BR>3 Why do you make me see wrongdoing
<BR>and look at trouble? <BR>Destruction and violence are before me; <BR>strife
and contention arise. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>2:1 I will stand at my watchpost, <BR>and station myself on the rampart;
<BR>I will keep watch to see what he will say to me, <BR>and what he will answer
concerning my complaint. <BR>2 Then the LORD answered me and said: <BR>Write the
vision; <BR>make it plain on tablets, <BR>so that a runner may read it. <BR>3
For there is still a vision for the appointed time; <BR>it speaks of the end,
and does not lie. <BR>If it seems to tarry, wait for it; <BR>it will surely
come, it will not delay. <BR>4 Look at the proud! <BR>Their spirit is not right
in them, <BR>but the righteous live by their faith. </DIV>

<DIV><BR>Exodus 17: 8 - 13 (Roman Catholic) </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Exod 17:8 (NRSV) Then Am'alek came and fought with Israel at Reph'idim. 9
Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some men for us and go out, fight with Am'alek.
Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand."
10 So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Am'alek, while Moses, Aaron,
and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 Whenever Moses held up his hand,
Israel prevailed; and whenever he lowered his hand, Am'alek prevailed. 12 But
Moses' hands grew weary; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat
on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the
other side; so his hands were steady until the sun set. 13 And Joshua defeated
Am'alek and his people with the sword. </DIV>

understanding; <BR>therefore I hate every false way. </DIV>

<DIV>Psalm 119: 137 - 144 (Can. BAS)</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Psal 119:137 (NRSV) You are righteous, O LORD, <BR>and your judgments are
right. <BR>138 You have appointed your decrees in righteousness <BR>and in all
faithfulness. <BR>139 My zeal consumes me <BR>because my foes forget your words.
<BR>140 Your promise is well tried, <BR>and your servant loves it. <BR>141 I am

<DIV>NEW TESTAMENT: 2 Timothy 3: 14 - 4: 5 (RCL)
<BR>
2 Timothy 3: 14 - 4: 2 (Roman Catholic) </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>2 Tim 3:14 (NRSV) But as for you, continue in what you have learned and
firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, 15 and how from childhood you
have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation
through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful
for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17
so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good
work. 4:1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living
and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you:
2 proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or
unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in
teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound
doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers
to suit their own desires, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and
wander away to myths. 5 As for you, always be sober, endure suffering, do the
work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><BR>GOSPEL: Luke 18: 1 - 8 (all) </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Luke 18:1 (NRSV) Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray
always and not to lose heart. 2 He said, "In a certain city there was a judge
who neither feared God nor had respect for people. 3 In that city there was a
widow who kept coming to him and saying, "Grant me justice against my opponent.'
4 For a while he refused; but later he said to himself, "Though I have no fear
of God and no respect for anyone, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I
will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.'"
6 And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God
grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay
long in helping them? 8 I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And
yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"
