At our Stewardship Commission last night one of our members has a company that does psychological profiling and said they have certain phrases that identify people when they answer open ended questions. Women almost always use our, us, we, but men nearly always use I, me, my.
I think we may be on to something about how maybe we are viewing things from our gender basis. (Yea, biases?) So we indeed need to perhaps listen more carefully to each other, and realize how we may be seeing things differently, depending on whether we are male or female.
Peace and blessings,
Joe

I think Barclay was on to something. I think community support and involvement is important, but for me faith is an individual journey. I'm very minimalist; loving kindness and seeking justice - community; walking humbly with God - me.

re: Barclay's first statement; I agree with Ann. We enter in community and from community.
Does Barclay not mix his parables just a bit in the later analysis -- it sounds much like the parable of the sower to me?

Seems that Jesus did not say any such thing -- it was all or nothing for him -- mostly addressed his words to "you" plural -- not singular. I wonder if we have become too singular in our faith journey just like the stories in the book _Bowling Alone_

People do not enter the kingdom in crowds; they must enter as individuals; for the moment of entry is the personal and individual acceptance of the will of God. That is why the growth of the mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds, into a tree symbolizes the kingdom. That is why, if a person is placed in an environment which is hostile or indifferent to the claims of God, he must not regard it as something to regret and resent, but as a privilege and a challenge to be the tiny seed from which the kingdom grows.
